The Move-Out Cleaning Checklist That Protects Your Deposit

June 8, 2026 Best Cleaning Services Team LLC

Security deposits are rarely lost over big damage. They're lost over a list of small things nobody thought counted — an oven that was wiped but not cleaned, a fridge seal nobody touched, dust on blinds. Move-out inspections are checklist-driven, and the checklist is more specific than most tenants expect.

Kitchen. Inside the oven, including the racks and the glass door. Inside and behind the refrigerator, including the door seals and the drip tray. Inside the microwave. Inside every cabinet and drawer. Countertops, backsplash, and the sink and faucet, including hard-water build-up around the base.

Bathrooms. Toilet, including the base and behind it. Tub and shower, with attention to grout and any soap scum line. Mirrors, fixtures, and the exhaust fan cover, which almost always has dust on it. Under-sink cabinet interiors.

Floors. Vacuumed and mopped throughout, including closet floors and the strip under where furniture stood. Corners and edges matter here — those are where an inspector looks first, because that's where a rushed job shows.

Details tenants skip. Baseboards. Door frames and door tops. Light switches and outlet plates. Window sills and tracks. Blinds. Ceiling fan blades. Interior closet shelving. Any wall marks that will wipe off. These items appear on nearly every property manager's list, and together they account for most of the deductions we hear about.

One practical piece of sequencing: clean after the unit is completely empty. Cleaning around remaining boxes guarantees you'll miss the exact floor and closet areas an inspector will check. An empty unit also cleans faster, which is why move-out cleaning is priced on an empty space.

If you'd rather not spend your moving weekend on an oven, we do this work to landlord and property manager standards across Mount Vernon, Burlington, Anacortes, Everett, Lynnwood, and the surrounding areas — including Airbnb and rental turnovers.
